Factions
Factions are inseparable from the long history of Irish Stick Fighting. They are familial, fraternal, religious, political, occupational, social and sometimes geographical groups who have banded together for mutual aid and assistance. The Hollywood film, Gangs of New York, brings a snapshot of the power of factions to create social change to modern public awareness. Factions, more generally, have an important role in the entire history of Ireland and the Irish diaspora.
We hope to inspire the formation of factions with the aim of self-protection against knife crime. We encourage individual cane users to get training and form a practice group with friends and family to learn skills and gain confidence.
We wish to encourage teachers and coaches who are already involved in fighting arts to acquire training and incorporate Irish Stick Fighting techniques against knife crime into their own offerings, especially for the more vulnerable, in our communities. In addition to the on-line Dooney Irish Stick 101 Course, one-to-one or group training is available in beautiful Portugal. Begin the conversation at Contact.
